Industrial board for an artisan bakery
The soft grey of our board combines with wood to create a warm centre just like the products sold at the Pontevedra bakery XEVE Artesano.
The bread like that baked at Xeve Artesano's needed a bakery adapted to its needs. And to give this product the value it deserves, the owners counted on the help of Peza Estudio, who knew how to make bread the protagonist in a contemporary and functional environment. Dalia Pena, interior designer and founder of the studio PEZA, decided to use the visual potential of bread to mark the relationship between the space and the consumer.
The list of requirements demanded maximum functionality from the project. The premises, only 15 m2 in size, has a bread and pastries counter, a product cutting and weighing area, storage, a take-away coffee and self-service beverage area. The solution was to design a vertical product display area, a horizontal display area and a self-service area.
Perhaps the most striking feature is the system of cylindrical chestnut wood bars used for vertical display. They are located on the wall, with adequate spacing to hold the bread, and are complemented by movable wooden shelves that provide additional support where needed. For the horizontal display, an L-shaped counter has been designed that marks the entire width of the shop window and cuts the space longitudinally. The single-height glass display makes the product visible from above and from the front, so that a complete view is achieved without the need for movement, generating fluidity when choosing the product. For designer Dalia Pena, this lightweight versatile display system, together with a lighting design that unifies and enhances the warmth of the bread, are the fundamental elements of the project.
The basic materials for the project were wood, glass and Finsa's waterproof Fimaplast Soft finish, “because of its ease of machining and stability”, says Dalia. We see it both on the walls and on the counter. Although the counter has been covered with porcelain stoneware, Gris Suave from the Gama Duo was chosen for the walls, due to the perfect combination with the rest of the materials. “A chromatic harmony has been sought to highlight the different tones of the bread, ranging from the lightest, straw-coloured products to the more intense golds, reaching ranges of dark browns”. This is not the first time that PEZA has turned to Finsa, a company that “offers technical solutions for any project, an infinite number of finishes and, above all, great attention to detail”.
PEZA Estudio define themselves as creators of conscious interiors. To achieve this, the first thing to do is to connect with the client and get to know the needs of their project. “That connection is going to generate a direct dialogue and should conclude with a project adapted in all its forms”, Dalia explains. During the design process, PEZA promotes the knowledge of the materials and elements that will be integrated into the design, their life cycle, their durability and their benefits. Throughout this process, “we manage to make good decisions in terms of design, well-being and economy”, she says. The positive reception from customers and the compliments received have proved her right.
