Finsa materials arrive at one of the most emblematic buildings in Madrid
Finsa finishes in walnut and oak to convey the essence of the 50s at the Hotel Riu Plaza España
The new Hotel RIU Plaza España is destined to be among the best hotels in Madrid. Located in the emblematic Edificio España on Madrid's Gran Vía, the architectural and interior design program has been developed respecting its history. "For two years we have dedicated the best talent, all our experience and a great effort to make this new hotel a reality that brings Edificio España back to life and that we hope will also serve as a lever to regenerate the area", explains Luis RIU, CEO of RIU Hotels, about a project that he describes as "exciting and complex".

The interior design recovers the original splendor of the building, opened in 1953 as Hotel Plaza. In addition to the restoration and enhancement of the protected elements, such as the marble columns and bas-reliefs at the entrance, the decoration seeks to convey the essence of the 50s and 60s to its visitors.
The Riu Plaza España has 585 rooms whose interior combines white marble with glass and wood, present in the furniture, which has been manufactured using Compacmel Plus and Fimaplast in Victoria Walnut finish. For the interior lining of the cabinets, Fimaplast has been used with the Tessuto textile-like finish. Decorative touches in gold and black evoke the 50s, in a space designed in a way that allows natural light to pass through the entire room to the bathroom.
The main attraction of the RIU Plaza España Hotel is the two sky bars located on the top floors, which boast the best views of the city. But its facilities also include a gym, swimming pool, restaurant and 5,000 m2 of space for events. Distributed in 17 meeting rooms, fireproof Fibraplast with an Aurora Oak finish has been used for the paneling and lining of the columns. Among all of them, Sala Madrid stands out, an open space, double height and with natural light, with capacity for 1,500 people.
For the paneling in other areas of the hotel, fireproof Fibraplast has also been used but with a Victoria Walnut finish, in tune with the furniture in the rooms. We can see it at the reception, in the common areas, in the evacuation corridors and next to the elevators.
