The warmth of the wood welcomes the snow at the Grandvalira ski resort
Stone Design turned this hall into a comfortable waiting space by combining carpet, felt and Aurora Oak by Finsa.
The emptying of a mountain is what inspired Stone Designs in the renovation of the access to the slopes of the Pas de la Casa ski area, in the Grandvalira resort. Comfort and color are now the characteristic features of this space that welcomes skiers, where the ticket offices for buying passes and registering are located. The beginning of a great day in the snow deserved a place like this.
The premise was to achieve acoustic comfort and convert the station hall into an operational space that is at the same time warm and welcoming, giving visitors the best first impression. The combination of carpet, the felt of the ceiling and the wood of the Finsa panels make this hall a pleasant waiting space.
Stone Designs was inspired by the mountains that surround the building, creating a second skin for the roof, which represents the orography of the area through warm colors. For this, acoustic panels were used, made of polyurethane and fabric, which help absorb sound in a place that is characterized by the constant traffic of people. If the ceiling represents the mountains, the carpet on the floor represents a cloudy sky. An inverted landscape that seeks to make the user dream of what is outside.
To emphasize the concept without superfluous elements, the studio used Finsa Fimaplast boards with a Aurora Oak design melamine finish from our DUO Range to cover the walls and columns of the room. This oak contrasts with the movement generated by the desks, inspired by the shape of old skis, to which the three-dimensional numbers located at the top give a retro look, taking us back to an old cinema.
"At Stone Designs, we are used to working on projects where weather conditions are extreme." This project is one more example of how they try to solve the specific needs of clients and users in their collaborations with ski resorts around the world.
